12 Gender Reveal Ideas to Inspire You

Is it a boy or a girl?

One of the most exciting things about pregnancy is anticipating the gender of your new baby. From pink or blue smoke bombs to fun videos with older siblings, there are many ideas for revealing the sex of the baby. You can gather your friends and family to share the happy news at a gender reveal party or plan a private photo shoot just for you and your partner. Whether you’re looking for a quick and easy baby reveal idea or a more over-the-top idea, we recommend you take a look at our list of creative baby reveal ideas.

1. Cake

It is said that the custom of the Gender Reveal started with a cake. Prepare a big cake or cake with colored filling, depending on the gender. Invite your loved ones and parents can cut a piece of the cake and let out what’s inside. You can do the same with a lasagne or other food.

2. Balloons and darts

Fill balloons with paper balloons in a colour that represents the sex of the baby. Then invite people to throw darts and try to pop the balloons. When the balloons pop, the colour of the baby’s sex will pop. They can be helium balloons or not.

3. Hire a special service

Some people hire companies that are specially dedicated to this. They arrange for the doctor to tell them the sex of the baby before the parents know. Then they organise an event in which in some spectacular way, they reveal to the parents and friends themselves whether it will be a boy or a girl.

4. Water gun with paint

Ready to get messy? Fill some water guns with a paint solution. Parents-to-be should wear white clothes and spray each other, or have their friends and family shoot them at the same time.

5. Smoke grenade

Dramatic and funny at the same time, this staged event will work wonders for revealing the sex of your baby. Buy a smoke bomb or a sparkler in the required colour. When it goes off, a big cloud will billow out and linger in the air for several minutes. This will allow you to take great photos.

6. Piñata

Choose a piñata with the theme of your choice and place a box inside with a note that reveals whether it will be a boy or a girl. Also, add lots of sweets and toys for the little ones at the party.

Have the guests go through the piñata one by one with the stick to try and break the piñata. After the contents have been scattered on the floor, the parents should open the box and show the note to everyone present.

7. A surprise gift

Another way is to present a gift box containing a pair of slippers or booties in any colour and open it in front of your guests. It will be a nice souvenir, as they will be the little one’s first shoes. Make sure you take good photos to immortalise the moment.

8. Toy gender reveal

Toys work well for gender reveal. Wrap a box with a stuffed animal, a teddy bear works well, with a blue or pink ribbon around the neck. You can also dress a doll in pink or blue clothes. Unwrap the ‘present’ to reveal the gender. This works well if you are gender revealing at a shower. Simply place the gender reveal package wrapped with the other gifts.

9. Scratch card

Buy scratch cards with the baby’s gender written on the hidden part and hand them out to family and friends. When they scratch the hidden part, they will know if it is a boy or a girl! What a thrill!

10. White T-shirt

Take a belly photo with a white t-shirt with your hands in the shape of a heart, and when you take your hands out of the belly you have pink or blue paint. This requires 2 photos to be taken, one to give excitement to the surprise and one to discover the surprise.

11. Black balloon

For this idea, you will need a black balloon (it is recommended that it is a little thicker than normal) so that the colour of its contents cannot show through. The balloon will be inflated and filled with coloured powder or confetti of a single colour, which will reveal the gender. The parents will pop the balloon together to reveal the baby’s gender.

12. Score a goal

Take a black balloon, fill it with a pink or blue powder and, if you like, decorate it like a football. Now set up a toy goal or build one with three sticks and a net. Finally, ask one of the guests to take on the role of goalkeeper, while the dad prepares to take a penalty kick.

The balloon will burst when it is kicked, scattering all its contents into the air and revealing the hitherto kept secret about the new member of the family.
