From the white sand beach of Negril and Port Antonio, to the lush jungle of the blue mountains, Jamaica is the perfect place for a dream honeymoon.

    Negril – Seven Mile Beach

I spent 2 weeks in Jamaica 2 years ago and I would like to give you some tips for a perfect jamaica honeymoon.

Situated in the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica is a lush island surrounded by crystalline waters and soft white sand. With such a dreamlike setting, Jamaica is one of the best honeymoon spots in the world. But there’s much more to do than to toasts with the loved one in a luxurious resort in Negril. Diving, snorkeling, rafting, hiking and enjoying the vibrant music culture, are all available options to make your honeymoon a unique experience.

    When to Go

Jamaica’s climate is warm year-round. The best time to visit is between mid-December and mid-April. However, prices peak during the winter high season, and hotels become very expensive in this time of the year. The hurricane season lasts from July-August through November, and should be avoided if possible, though lighter rain may fall year-round.

    Transportation

Taking a taxi is the better option to travel inside the island. It is common to negotiate the price before the ride. Since public transportation is nearly absent, the alternative is to rent a car, though keep in mind that driving in Jamaica can be quite dangerous.

    Where to Go

Jamaica offers different options depending on what type of honeymoon you want to spend. For example, Negril and Montego Bay offer hotels and all-inclusive resorts along with cheaper accommodations, while Port Antonio has more villas and apartments available. Let’ s have a closer look to find out the best honeymoon solution for you!

    Jamaica Honeymoon – Negril

Negril is a major beach and resort destination. Seven Mile Beach (aka Long Beach) is an inviting stretch of white sand, perfect for a totally stress-free and relaxing honeymoon. On the other hand, Seven Mile Beach is densely packed with resorts and hustlers trying to sell all kinds of products including food, tours, and sometime drugs and sex. Regardless, this is by all means a must-see beach in Jamaica.

    Negril – What to See

    • Negril offers offshore reefs perfect for snorkeling and diving right off the main beach at Seven Mile Beach
    • Rick’s Cafe is a bar with a huge patio looking out to a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. This is a popular sunset spot, where people also gather to watch some brave locals dive off the cliff.
    • Nine Mile Museum is in the house where Bob Marley grew up before moving to Trench Town in Kingston. Bob Marley’s body rests in a marble mausoleum inside a small church. The best way to get there from Negril is car or with a tour. Keep in mind that the Nine Mile Museum is 3 hour drive from Negril, so it makes for a nice full-day trip.

    Jamaica Honeymoon – Port Antonio

Far away from the resort areas of Negril and Montego Bay, on the other side of the island lies Port Antonio. Located in the more authentic and charming part of the island, this beautiful town is surrounded by a lush vegetation, thus making it a perfect getaway for newlyweds.

Port Antonio – What to See

    • The Blue Lagoon near Port Antonio has pristine, deep blue waters that make it a unique place. Swimming in the lagoon is fun and a must while in Jamaica. I recommend to take a boat at the blue lagoon harbor and explore the islands and beaches in the area.

    • Snorkeling in Monkey Island. Take the boat from the Blue Lagoon and snorkel around this green beautiful island to see lots of tropical fish. Bring a camera!

    • Bamboo rafting in the Rio Grande River. Take a relaxing ride down this peaceful river with a local guide. Stop halfway down to have lunch on the riverside.

    • Frenchman’s Cove is, in my opinion, the most beautiful beach in Jamaica. The calm freshwater river meets the Caribbean Sea in the shades of a tropical garden in this beautiful beach. Think paradise on earth, seriously! A small admission fee is required. The beach is owned by the Frenchman’s Cove Resort, that offers a restaurant on the beach.

    • Boston Bay is a small beach famous for the Jerk food, which is cooked on barbecue pits near the beach. It is also a great spot for surfing.

    • Stroll around downtown Port Antonio to buy some tropical fruits and enjoy Jamaican architecture.
    • Winnifred Beach is one of the most authentic Jamaican beaches in Port Antonio. Locals sell handmade crafts and food. The reefs offer a great spot to snorkel, but bring water shoes for the sea urchins!

    • Reach Falls. A 45 min drive from Port Antonio, the area consists in a series of waterfalls and natural pools. A guide will walk you throughout the site, and show you all the natural pools. Bring a swimsuit!

    Romantic Accommodations in Port Antonio

Here are  a few romantic accommodations in Port Antonio that are perfect for newlyweds:

    1. The Fan Villa is a complex of two apartments situated on the hills of Williamsfield, overlooking the Turtle Crawl Bay, Trident Castle and the Blue Mountains. The view from the villa is breathtaking, and the apartments are beautiful, spacious, and well furnished. Nino, the Fan Villa manager, is very accommodating and helpful.

    2. The apartments located at Norse Point are a great option if you want to stay steps away from the water. These apartments are situated on the water’s edge of the San San Bay, and they have a beautiful view of the Monkey Island.

    Jamaica Honeymoon – Blue Mountains

The more adventurous couples looking for an authentic Jamaican experience should consider visiting the Blue Mountains. Waterfalls, lush vegetation, and the smell of the coffee plantations will accompany you along this scenic drive. For those wishing to stay in an exclusive and romantic resort I suggest to stay at the  Strawberry Hill. This unique resort has a stunning view of Kingston, an infinity pool, a great restaurant, and is surrounded by a forest with plenty of birds (it is in fact a popular spot for birdwatching in the morning). There are many tours and activities to do in the Blue Mountains, such as bird-watching, hiking, and visiting a local coffee plantation, which I wholeheartedly recommend.

    Jamaica Honeymoon – Kingston

A visit to the capital is important to fully understand  the Jamaican culture. Kingston is divided into two major districts, Downtown and Uptown. The Downtown area has many historic buildings, street markets, unique shops and restaurants. The Uptown is considered the modern part of the capital, and the business district of the city.

    What to See in Kingston

Bob Marley Museum was the house where the reggae superstar lived and recorded from 1975 until his death in 1981.

Devon House is one of the best examples of Jamaican architecture of the 19th century. It was built in 1881 by George Stiebel, the first black millionaire in Jamaica. After the house tour, have the best Jamaican ice cream at the Devon House store called “I Scream”.

The Trench Town Culture Yard and the Trench Town Museum are main tourist destinations in Kingston.

For your safety, you should visit this place with a guide. The Trench Town is the house where Bob Marley spent most of his early life and where he wrote his most famous songs. The museum has photos showing the history of the community, as well as Bob Marley’s first guitar. New bands have formed the Trench Town community that record music in a room of the main building.
